Methamphetamine is a psychomotor or central nervous system stimulant.
It works by imitating a neurotransmitter at serotonin and dopamine
receptor sites in the brain. In other words, meth both mimics
and causes higher levels of brain chemicals such as serotonin,
dopamine and adrenaline. Because of the way meth works in the
brain, natural production of these essential chemicals is suppressed,
and the cells that produce them are damaged. That is fundamentally
why methamphetamine is so addictive, and so dangerous.
